Yep, most of the i-thing users I know already have a bunch of lightning cables at least. Mostly because they seem so incredibly fragile and regularly fray, break or the plug itself gets damaged contacts, so it's advisable to have a backup ready to go.

Most customers want to keep the same connector, because they already have chargers and cables, and sometimes even accessories, for it.
USB-C is better in the long run, but that doesn't make it better now.
