Geeks in Space 7: Cardboard Box 10

The 7th Seal has been opened-yes, that's right it's time for the most-weekly Geeks in Space. We talk about Mark Hamill's lack of career, sock Athlons, the new super-palmtops, with almost nary a mention of the Krull Invasion.

Geeks in Space 7: Cardboard Box

  • Thanks for another great one. It looks like there is a slashbox on the way too. I selected it in my preferences but it doesn't show up yet. This will make it much easier once its up and running. By the way, how big was that cardboard box? Washing macheine size or more like a match box?
  • Don't let the lack of responses stop you guys. I'm really enjoying it, and many of my cow-orkers that don't read slashdot(heathens) are listening to the mp3.

Surely it was a toothpaste tube box?
  • More like a refrigator box. Double sided doors, so it was the luxury box.
  • Man, I love this show! I wish there were more audio broadcasts on the net about computers so I could give my hands a break and still be immersed in my obsession. Also, it's *great* that there is a downloadable MP3 format available -- nice for people with dialup bandwidth that still want decent quality. I want more shows to do this.. freakin real audio is painful to listen to on 33.6.

    Suggestions:

    1) More shows, more often! I'm thinking twice a week. Waiting a whole week is painful.

    2) Have at least one segment that deals with something that hasn't been on Slashdot and discussed already.

    3) If you want a bigger audience, post ads for it on the front page.

  • Another great episode, guys!

We just need two things: More episodes,
More often. Maybe it's just me, but I like hearing you guys ramble on and on about nothing in particular. Or maybe it's just the sweet sound of Rob's voice :P

Perhaps you should add another cardboard box, and make it a condo. Then you can get R2 to hold the wet bar.
  • Um, why would anyone reply to a Geeks in Space? I mean, it's simply a discussion about stories that have been run, hence already discussed. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Geeks in Space as much as the next guy, simply because it's interesting to hear those guys talk about junk. They're kinda funny, or somethin'.

Being discouraged by lack of responses would be silly - there ain't much new news in it. ;)

I agree with what has been posted, it's all been talked about before in their stories and the following relevant postings. So why not change the format of the show so that you talk about other things, one idea is to look at an aspect of computers or whatever that hasn't been looked at yet. If all things fail try comedy sketches. Then you can have the catchprases.

'YOU can use it over the Internet?'
Jeff - 'I like pretty' (in a slow drooling voice)

Or do a soap opera about slashdot, where you could have CowboyNeal blackmailing Rob for a Sony headmounted display or else he gives Jeff the secret videotape of him and Jeff's Tux soft toy in compromising positions. Then at the end you could have the monologue 'Will Rob find the secret videotape in time, will Nate realise that Microsoft are watching his every move, and will Jeff and his secret spy hole be found out. Tune in next week for the thrilling answers'.;-)

For my money the above should get some more posts and a good discussion. But then I guess I'm a weird guy with way too much time on my hands.

  • Residuals: is what actors get (assuming they have a decent contract) when their shows go into syndication. HTH.

Don't knock all Anonymous Cowards. That one was posted to the Krull Invasion [slashdot.org] discussion and, as of this writing, is the last comment. I'm duplicating the information here because this topic had not yet been created when it was posted, and this is where it belongs.

Incidentally, I sitll love the show. Keep it up!

And if you're reading this, Rob, please consider allowing type= in the blockquote tags. It makes a very nice quoting method (type=cite is widely used in some of the Infoworld forums). I originally tried it here for this post, and it was eaten. :-) Thanks!

  • Geeks in space is an interesting show that I look forward to, but judging from the number of commments its audience is not very wide. I suspect that if it were announced on the front page, the number of listeners would increase by orders of magnitude (well, maybe not that much, but the number of listeners would certainly grow).

  • As a resident of a 3-room cardboard box suite, I am glad to hear that the box-living population is finally getting recognized and represented in the media. Kudos, Slashdot.
